Yuyuen + Tanjung | a garden in the sky

Tanjung planned his proposal to Yuyuen with perfection. Weeks, months, had this event been in motion and it started with a secret course in jewelery making. Tanjung decided to make and design the ring he would propose to Yuyuen with. (I know all the girls reading this just took a really big *sigh! *) The ring was just the beginning of this oh so special night, Tanjung had organized a midnight rooftop proposal without any clue from Yuyuen- a tad confused at his instructions to wake and move from her nice warm bed, only to walk a couple of blocks in the freezing cold to Tanjung’s apartment block. She was then told to wait in the lobby by herself for what would have seemed like an eternity! It was all worth it though. As Yuyuen got up to the roof, she walked along a line of fairy lights to a camping tent that Tanjung had set up in the middle of the roof. She was instructed to take a seat, relax and enjoy a special movie that Tanjung put together for her (weeks and weeks in the making!) which then led to his proposal. Oh Sweet love!

The immense amount of effort and thought that Tanjung had gone to (that I know I am not doing justice to as I write this), to show Yuyuen how he felt about her, was just a snippet of the amount of thought, energy and time they both put into making their wedding day a true celebration of the different relationships in their lives and the love that the two of them share.

I should also preface this by saying that Yuyuen and Tanjung are both architects! (And really good ones!) The vision for their day was to create ‘a garden in the sky’ above the city of Melbourne. The space they created was amazing. Amazing!

Their ceremony was held at the Alto Event space above the iconic GPO on Bourke St Mall. Just think… modern, classy, boutique. Huge high ceilings and floor to ceiling glass and views that spread all around the city of Melbourne. Yuyuen and Tanjung decided to get married out on the balcony at sunset. As you will see from the photographs their ‘Garden in the Sky’ was just that, a beautiful styled, thoughtful, fun space that reflected their own sense of joy and creativity, which all of their guests had the pleasure of enjoying. The ceremony was just… lovely. (I swear I didn’t cry! *blush*) Yuyuen and Tanjung were excited about committing to each other and knowing that they would be sharing the rest of their lives together. There was this real sense of joy in the air. Everyone could feel it.

The ceremony concluded with ‘sparkle time!’ Everyone lit their sparklers and had a good laugh together. It was a lot of fun and really special. What followed was an evening of fantastic food (dammfinefood) great music (Buray Hoshsoz), games, speeches, photo booth fun and dancing!

I also have to mention that one of the most special things I have seen at a wedding so far was ‘the book,’ that Tanjung and Yuyuen made for their guests to share during their speeches. Tanjung, the mastermind behind this amazing idea, suggested that Yuyuen (being incredibly gifted at drawing and all things handmade) draw all their guests and make a book out of it!  (Yes you heard me right- draw each guest and make a book out of it! It was an enormous effort but so so special!) On each page in this book there was an illustration and a special little story depicting how that particular person was special to them. It was a really special gift to their friends. Everybody truly appreciated it.

Our location photographs took place in the Carlton Gardens and around the Melbourne’s GPO before the ceremony. Being archeticts, Tanjung and Yuyuen have a real love for the GPO building. It was really fun photographing in there, so much potential and never enough time on a wedding day!

I’m not using flattery when I say this, but Tanjung and Yuyuen are really beautiful people. They are the kind of friends that you wish you could have met sooner and I feel incredibly privileged to have been able to share in their day.

Enjoy friends!

when things just line up…

I love symmetry. Probably the reason why I love this photo so much. There is something really calming about things just lining up, I can’t really explain it concisely, it just makes sense in my head (do you know what I mean?!) I watched this amazing clip a few months ago and while I was having this fleeting thought it seemed fitting to share it with you. Tell me what you think.

Narrelle - Love this shot Amy! I’m guessing this was the wedding I missed out on. Bummer. Can’t wait to see some more. xx

scott + carolyn

This open field in the east has become one of my favourite  places to photograph my couples, the expanse of space, long whispy white grass and gorgeous soft light always makes my heart skip a beat when I arrive. Carolyn & Scott are getting married next month and I have the enormous pleasure of photographing their wedding. Carolyn loves pretty things- pearls and polka dots are a few of her fave’s. Scott loves… Carolyn. It’s pretty simple. You should see the way he looks at her. Beautiful.

It was an absolutle delight photographing these two. Scott with his cute and gentle smile, Carolyn with her drop dead gorgous looks… serioulsy! I could’t ask for a nicer couple. The best bit of this afternoon was I got a glimpse of their love and it was really sweet.

I’ll see you two on your wedding day. What a joyous day that will be!
